Grease are substances used to reduce frictional resistance between the moving or sliding metallic surfaces. this in turn reduces wears and tears.

FUNCTIONS OF GREASE

1. It reduces loss of energy in the form of heat due to friction.
2. It avoids seizure of moving surfaces.
3. It improves relative motion.
4. It reduces maintenance and running cost.
5. It reduces expansion of metal due to heat produced between rubbing surfaces

Types of grease

There are several types of grease  but we are concerned with multi purpose grease which is called SODIUM GREASE. This is sodium salt based grease.It is soluble in water but resist high temperature up to 175 degree. They are good for ball bearings and other auto vehicle and mechanical tools lubrication.
